Bourbon and Her Sweet Burn

It's been nearly a week since I had a glass of bourbon. That's way too long! There's nothing more relaxing than throwing on an album, sitting down to write, and lifting the clinking glass of ice and liquid amber to my lips. Cold, rich, and sweet in it's own way.

There's folklore, or myth, about different types of alcohols causing different effects. I don't know if that's physically possible, but if it is, bourbon is mellow. Kicked back, feet up, eyelids half heavy ... just on the sleepy side of normal. This includes Irish and Scotch whiskey/whisky.

Beer is the longevity buzz; the edge is gone but I'm ready to do whatever. Tear apart a motorcycle, fix a broken guitar, clean the garage ... beer is my baby.

Wine isn't like alcohol at all. It's more like being high. My mind stays lucid, hyperactive even, my body slows and everything is tilted a little away from normal. This effect is exacerbated by purchasing wine in boxes. No, not the really crappy stuff, mid-level wines that taste like wine. I do not however get offended by cheap wine, nor am I impressed with expensive wines. The good ones taste like grape juice with the sugars converted to ethanol. The bad ones taste like wine. The exceptional ones taste like I spent too much money on grape juice and yeast. Absinthe and brandy feel about the same, though brandy leans toward bourbon a bit.

Tequila and rum are crazy. They make for a great and unpredictable time. I've had two life changing, but out of control, experiences due to the effects of tequila. These libations are a special treat that I approach with apprehension.

All the others roll together somewhat. I like the taste of gin and I like vodka as a mixer but they are of little significance in their effects.

This one just makes me thirsty.
