Ramblings From Justin Penney

This has been a tremendously stressful week! We were short handed at work and we had a fair amount to get done. To top that off, nothing worked right. Three were lots of last minute changes. Last week was about the same so this weekend feels really good.

I went to the doctor this week for the lump on the back of my hand. I had thought it was just a cyst and didn't do anything about it. I did comment on how bad it looked but that wasn't enough to make me do anything about it. Last weekend Dan got a good swipe on my lump and there was some skin hanging off. The loose skin kept getting hung up on things so I just ripped it off. Underneath the callous like skin was a pearly pink spot. This didn't look like "just a cyst."

The doctor looked at it and said that she wanted a biopsy of it. Then she asked to look again and said, "There might be something that wouldn't be cancer." The emphasis was hers. Then she handed me a card for a Dermatology and Skin Cancer center and flippantly said, "Have them send me a note if it's cancer."

There was some more detail like she noted the apparent lack of blood vessels. I assume that due to her nonchalant demeanor that this doesn't appear too serious. However hearing the C word in reference to yourself is disheartening.

I go to the dermatologist on Monday and I'll give an update here.

I capped off the week by finally seeing Love Tusk play. I recorded a demo for them sometime last year and I really enjoyed the fun in their music. The live show didn't let me down! They were energetic, a little sloppy, and really fun!
