Microsoft Creeping In

I'm not a Microsoft plan. I have never been a fan of Windows or their business practices. I think Office is bloated and slow and I think the most useful things they do are way too expensive. I have, at many points in my life, had NO Windows computer. I had been completely happy with some version of Linux. Now Windows and other Microsoft products are starting to creep in.

My last post about the Zune was just the latest example. When I started taking recording seriously I had to have Windows at the time as the Linux audio program offerings were immature. High end audio hardware also had spotty support, this may not be the case currently but none of the software I use works on Linux. I am also working with Windows Compute Cluster Server at work. We recently won a bid for a machine running CCS. I'm currently experimenting with it in VMware to get familiar with it before the machines are built.

So the other piece sparking this tonight is Silverlight. This is a new plugin from them that is a cross-browser and cross-platform (with Linux support in the works with the Mono project) plugin for building dynamic web pages. I started playing with the basics of it tonight, nothing more than a few primitive things like drawing some ellipses. I never learned Flash and maybe this will be a good way to get the same results.
