It's easy to blame those guys!

The Examiner has been having these little pictures of people with quotes about things like "what's the worst thing about blue springs?" and "should the government provide healthcare?" Nearly every answer referred to the government as "they."

I think that is a big problem. We're in the mindset of the government being this large entity that we have no part in. "They" do what they want. "They" make the rules. Well, you put those people there. That's what voting is about. Even the little ones. The local elections that tack on sales taxes or elect city councilpersons our aldermen. That's the important things. That is you controlling "They." Because "They" work for you.

If most people paid an eighth of the amount of time and energy spent on American Idol, Big Brother or any of those banal reality shows ... our government might actually work. They might represent the population not just a couple vocal groups or some crazy idealogues that bring all their buddies with them.

Get a little involved and informed and it won't be Us and Them. Just Us!
