Vurt Has Been Retired

My trusty Linux box that's been kicking around since February of 2000 is retired. I copied all of the data I needed off and I issued '/sbin/poweroff'.

Vurt was based on the Tyan Trinity 400. It had lots of hardware changes over the years but kept kicking. It started with a 400MHz Celeron and then an overclocked 350MHz Celeron and settling on 650Mhz Pentium 2. It was in 3 different cases throughout it's life. Some tower I don't remember, the pink case with the Slashdot sticker on it that my grandma now has and the Enlight desktop. It's been through 3 hard drives and only lost a couple files. It has had Debian, RedHat 8 and most recently Suse 9.3.

It had acted as a faithful router, DNS server, file server, web server, database server, development server, mail server and sometimes a workstation.

It's now a little quieter without it's fans whirring and my electric bill will go down around $10 each month. Though I do feel a small sense of accomplishment by being able to keep a computer running a usable for nearly 7 years!
