Irresponsible
Lily came home after spending a week with her mother. I knew their living situation was weird (a travel trailer) but I also don't mind Lily going to the Lake with my grandparents and staying in a travel trailer there. Sure, the grandparents are in a camp ground and Lily's mother is in a parking lot beside a decommisioned church but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt.
Lily played with the neighbor kids right after she got home so I didn't really talk to her much. After she came in she said she was hungry and hadn't had dinner. She walked in with an ice cream cone at 7:00 p.m. so I had assumed that was dessert. We asked her why she didn't get food while they were at McDonald's getting ice cream. Apparently her mother bought herself a chesseburger but "didn't have enough money" for one for Lily. I know that were I in a situation of limited food with Lily I would make sure she was fed before I would. I can't imagine any person with half a conscience eating food while leaving a kid hungry.
We talked more and found out that Lily had not been able to take a bath since last Saturday! 6 days! The last bath she took was before she went to bed Saturday night. Then we asked about brushing her teeth and she said that she did not have a toothbrush.
The conversation had lots of other horrible things: no air conditioning, no place to play, etc. but food and hygine are the basics of life!
