Computing Power

I'm always around pretty cutting edge PC technology. It's easy for me to get pretty cynical about computing power when you build supercomputers. However tonight on my rath slow celeron workstation and my PIII 650 server I was watching a video, downloading a few albums, reading a website and getting mail while still undermy constant barage of SSH hack attempts.

These are normal things that even the most modest of modern computers do without hesitation. I got to thinking about the 486 DX2 50MHz that is in the garage. This was the first computer in our household. It was the first computer I ever owned that was on the internet. I played Doom, installed OS/2 2.1. Messed everything up and re-installed it. What a machine. To even think of the network, the speed, the storage that we have now would have been crazy.
