So Now You Want Regulation
If I get another "Don't buy gas day" or "Lower gas prices petition" from a person that votes republican I will scream. You don't want regulation on businesses... until they start stealing your money! Didn't that new joke of an energy bill also give a bunch of tax breaks to the oil industry? If I recall correctly that was overall pretty partisan and the republicans are the ones that voted for it.
The working class "macho vote," a term I've coined to represent working class people that vote republican because they don't want to be a "bleeding heart pussy" are the ones gettign hurt most. You support these people, vote for them, put them in power and get shocked when the profit focused, business based government takes your money. And it's hurting the working class the most. The people that have to drive 50+ miles to work because there aren't jobs near them. The people whose jobs are centered around transportation. The laborers, the road crews, the truck drivers. You think these greedy corporate execs care? They fly around in jets and helicopters. They drive their Hummers to the store. They don't give a crap. They've got all your money and they love to waste it... flagrantly.
Taxes have been cut and services are failing to meet the needs of the people. That's not a shock, this is the expected outcome. When you cut funding for hurricane and flood protection in a hurricane and flood prone area, it's not shocking when there's a hurricane and it floods. When you have the National Gaurd an ocean away don't be surprised when civil unrest happens during a tragedy.
Now is the time for that 20/20 hindsight. In my opinion 2 years ago was the time for that but now it's smacking every single one of you in the face. A zealot is a zealot, whether they are political, religious, social... whatever. They are a dangerous scourge to our society. People unable to compromise, to see beyond their own personal gain, to see the consequences of their actions as possibly bad are not going to do humanity good. They have an agenda to push and are so focused or brainwashed on it that they don't care what else happens so long as their ends are the result.
I recently had a (very brief) discussion with a hard right winger about hurricanes, global warming, ocean warming and pollution. We were discussing gas eating vehicles. This persons response was, "If you can afford the vehicle and the gas then do it." This then went on to a quick tirade from him, "Do you think anything we do is chaning the environment? No. What do you think the oil is here for? It's here for us to use and us using it and burning it doesn't do anything, that's what it's for. It's not going to run out, no one knows how much there is and it's here for us."
Seems a rather blanket and zealous statement. The danger lies not in being zealous, but in being zealous about the wrong things, or zealous without understanding.
Stupid conservatives are just as bad as stupid liberals, and stupid atheists as bad as stupid Evangelicals.
A simple man believes anything, but a prudent man gives thought to his steps. - Proverbs 14:15
