New Tubes

Last year I bought my first tube guitar amp, a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. This is an amazing amp and jsut the sound that I was looking for. I had noticed it was a little weak but didn't think much of it. Well tonight at practice the clean channel sounded like complete crap. It was really fuzzy and grainy. The distortion channels were also really fuzzy and didn't have any bottom to them or any of the shimmering highs that I have grown accustomed to. Luckily I had some new 6L6 tubes hanging around and was able to switch them out. Wow! I wish I had done that when it first started sounding weak.

It kind of gave my a warm fuzzy feeling after I swapped out the tubes. It's the same satisfaction you get after giving your car a tune-up and realising the power that you used to have. In this digital age it's also nice to fix something physically instead of just moving some bits around or putting it through a "pass/fail" test.
